Taking Care of Cigars
In order to keep cigars fresh you must pay attention to three conditions; light, temperature and moisture. Cigars do not like light, changes in temperature or overly dry or overly moist conditions. So, the ideal conditions are a dark environment, a temperature of 60 to 75 F, and 70% humidity.
The best way to store your cigars is in a good quality humidor. If you are a cigar smoker who likes to keep a selection of cigars on hand you'll need a good quality humidor because nothing keeps them as well. Look for a humidor with a good seal and a decent humidification system. Then you need only to check that your humidification is moist and effective. Most systems need to be filled with distilled water every 4 - 6 weeks.
To determine the freshness of your cigars, you need to examine your cigars on a regular basis. By applying light pressure to your cigar, you can immediately tell if the cigars are fresh or if they need more humidification.
Finally, always give your cigars a breath of fresh air every once in a while. So let them get fresh air at least once a week for a few minutes.
